It All Started When...

     ​In 1934 a small, local group of believers felt called to begin a new Missionary Baptist Church. Farmer Stanley donated 2.5 acres of land and enough timber for a log cabin structure. The 17 founding members, who had been worshipping in a local schoolhouse, rented mules and worked together to build the original building while the women prepared meals and served them. Brother J.B. Graves preached for free and bought the bell for the church-as well as the food for the mules. The first service was held on September 10, 1934 and community outreach quickly became a priority: providing lunches for local school children and ministering to soldiers from Camp Robinson. The current sanctuary was completed in 1972 followed by the current parsonage in 1977. 

     The original log cabin church remained standing until 1999, when it was torn down and replaced with the Education Building. In 2004, the original bell purchased by Brother Graves was placed on the front grounds of the new building to serve as a reminder of the humble and faithful beginnings of GMBC.

     From that point on we have made it our mission to be faithful to the Word of God and proclaim the name of Jesus to all the nations.  Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
